Reduce Your School’s Reliance on Paper

It’s astounding how much paper schools can go through.  Can you imagine a school without it?  How would students learn?  After all, they write on paper, draw on it, read and study from it, as well as submit tests on it.

Research found that teachers are given a certain paper allotment.  And depending on the size of the school, expenses run in the tens of thousands of dollars per year!  Keep in mind this is just for the paper.  Add to that the cost of ink or toner, as well as service contracts with equipment providers.

In addition to all of the paper printed, copied and used in school, think about all the paper sent home with students or mailed directly.  There has to be a way to alleviate all of this paper use.

Some schools and districts have already taken measures to digitize some learning materials.  “Bring Your Own Device” programs encourage students to bring their own laptops and devices to school while some have purchased iPads and laptops for classroom use.

School notification systems can also help schools and districts significantly alleviate their paper use.  The cost of mailing home a report card or progress report to all students is considerable, adding up the cost of paper, ink, envelopes and postage.  Digitizing this and other documents sent home makes the return of investment on school notification systems very lucrative.

What measures is your school or district taking to reduce expenses, particularly with paper, ink and postage?
