Students with parents who are engaged in their school tend to have:
- Improved Attendance Rates
- Better Academic Performance
- Fewer Behavioral Problems
- Higher Graduation Rates
All of this sounds fantastic, but increasing parent engagement in k12 schools can be challenging. To help, we’ve compiled a few parent engagement strategies that promote good attendance, including:
1. Nurture a Culture of Attendance in Your School
Have teachers send home handouts with information and tips about attendance. Talk with parents and students early to share the value of good attendance. Ask students and parents alike to sign a pledge card!
2. Create a Student Attendance Program to Promote Success
Set an attendance goal for individual students and encourage parents to keep track of absences at home. Create an incentive program and reward students who meet the attendance goals. Share these successes with parents!
3. Send Automated Attendance Alerts to Parents
Many schools have reduced absenteeism rates by sending automated attendance alerts to parents when their child is absent. It improves parent involvement and is more efficient than manually contacting parents.
